Our firm is regularly engaged by clients who don’t speak Dutch, like expats or people who stuck around after their studies and never felt the need to learn our language. Marcel and I have enjoyed working together for over 15 years now. Not only is he great at what he does, but he’s also a genuinely nice guy. Even before I joined our firm, JMS Textservice was already our main supplier of interpreters. To me, JMS is almost like a supermarket, a one-stop-shop for all the languages of the world, including very specific languages. For example, when I need an interpreter who speaks Mandarin Chinese instead of Cantonese – two completely different languages – Marcel will arrange for one. In addition to interpreters, we also regularly engage JMS for certified translations of all kinds of deeds, powers of attorney and certificates of inheritance, in many different language combinations. JMS is logistically strong and well-organised. We are currently assisting in a transfer involving two foreign nationals, and the interpreter was booked within two days!

I deal with a lot of mortgages, loans and deeds of transfer, but we also regularly see cohabitation contracts, last wills and prenuptial agreements. While our clients are usually happy and excited, they can also be a little tense in these kinds of situation, so I always try to add a bit of humour to break the tension. Many interpreters start translating only after I’ve finished talking, and it can be a bit annoying to have your conversation constantly interrupted. But Marcel’s ability to interpret simultaneously allows him to keep the conversation flowing as intended. He often already knows what I’m going to say because he’s familiar with the contents of the deeds. This makes for smooth and pleasant proceedings from start to finish.
